Do you ever feel like your to-do list is secretly growing overnight? I do. Every morning, I wake up excited by all the things I want to learn, do, see, and explore—and by bedtime, I’m wondering where the hours went.
Right now, German is at the top of my list. I want to learn the language and travel to Germany. Maybe even wander into Austria and visit Vienna (yes, with coffee and cake included). I’ve been dabbling with apps and chatting with River about it, but let’s be honest—Duolingo can only get us so far. Eventually, we’ll need a face-to-face class. Something structured. Something that keeps us consistent. Because what we really need is 30 minutes a day, every day.
That’s part of our retirement vision: learning languages. Italian is next on the list. Can’t you just hear us ordering gelato in Florence or chatting with locals at a small piazza? (I imagine River will be fluent while I’m still trying to roll my R’s.)
But first, I have to deal with something I’ve been putting off for a while—my social media habits. I set time limits on Facebook and Instagram, thinking that would help. It didn’t. Every minute I scroll is a minute I could be using to actually work on German. Or read. Or write. Or just be. River is much better at this than I am (another reason I keep him around), and I want to follow suit. So yes, maybe it’s time to finally let those apps go.
There’s so much we want to do, and time is precious. So here’s to carving out space for what matters most: language adventures, cultural wanderings, and making the most of every day—one step (and maybe one flashcard) at a time..
